Artist Statement

I have always been torn by the diverging pulls of classical realism and modernist abstraction, straddling polarized genres in a fusion that continues to evolve. I make no apologies for being a figurative portrait painter, because I believe that representational quality will always have its place regardless of what is trending. Though the chaos and unpredictability of modern life has forged distortion upon my painting, I never sacrifice the concept of proportionality. Modern life is hard, stressful, and complicated, where society’s programmed expectations of material success are both unrealistic and almost unattainable. But natural beauty is within reach, hence my efforts to convey momentary visions of escapism in an otherwise unforgiving reality.
